  • 1894 September 30 — Created from the whole of Great Neston (pop. 2201 in 1901), Leighton (near Neston) (pop. 728 in 1901) and Little Neston (pop. 1225 in 1901)
  • 1933 April 1 — Gained parts of Raby (2 acres, pop. 0 in 1931) and Thornton Hough (53 acres, pop. 14 in 1931), and lost part to Raby (101 acres, pop. 0 in 1931)
  • 2009 April 1 — Abolished and incorporated into Neston.

It has been estimated that there are over 50,000 villages and hamlets that no longer exist for a variety of reasons, ie the 14th C plagues to the English Clearances in the eastern Counties, from mass migrations for economical reasons to villages just falling into the sea! The purpose of the Mailing List is to try to find out exactly where these now-deserted places were located, which parish they were in and where any extant records are kept.
