The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868
In 1868, the parish of Kilmenan contained the following places:"KILMENAN, a parish in the barony of Fassadinin, county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N. of Ballyragget. Ballinakill is its post town. It is 2 miles long by 1 mile broad. The surface consists of a medium quality, and is bounded on the W. by a small tributary to the river Barrow. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ossory, value with Attanagh, £408, in the patronage of the bishop."
