The Ancient Parish of WICKERSLEY
[Transcribed information mainly from the early 1820s]
"WICKERSLEY, a parish-town, in the upper-division of Strafforth and Tickhill, liberty of Tickhill; 4 miles E. of Rotherham, 8 from Tickhill, 9 from Sheffield, 47 from York. Pop. 432. The Church is a rectory, dedicated to St. Alban, in the deanry of Doncaster, value, £8. 0s. 2½d. Patrons, Henry Kater, Esq.This place is famous for a fine bed of Stone, peculiarly adapted for the making of Grindstones, 5000 of which, are annually sent by land carriage to Sheffield. --Miller's History of Doncaster."
