Census: 1787
Northwold is one of the few places in the county for which a census before 1841 containing names survives.
This Norfolk Record Office document [with the reference NRS 19117 (P153F)] is a map which includes a description of Northwold on the left hand side and a list of property owners and their tenants on the right hand side.
Each entry contains a unique reference number which refers to a property but this does not appear anywhere although houses or varying sizes are actually drawn on the map.

Owners
Where 2 numbers are given separated by a minus sign ("-") then this indicates that one person owns all in the range. eg. a man named Harvey owns properties 58,59 and 60. Some owners do not appear to live in the village and some of the others do not live in their own houses.

Notes
- All shorthand contractions in the document have been reproduced as written.
- Elis. is probably Elizabeth.
- Properties 36 and 100 would appear to be empty (or being built).
- Occupations in 61,98 and 100 were blank.
- Christian names in 15, 21, 90 and 96 were not present.
- The only indistinct Christian name was of Mr Spinks at entry 38.
- It would appear that the document was drawn up by the Schoolmaster.
- H. W. Wilson also had his name against an individual large house.
