The Devonshire Association’s Presidential Address was delivered at its July 1902 Bideford meeting. On that occasion, the President’s aimed at providing a retrospective on work completed by the Association during its first 40 years and proffer suggestions intended to stimulate younger members, thereby securing a continuation of it’s good work. The Association’s President for 1902 had been Headmaster of Plymouth Grammar School 1858-66 and for 47 years Rector of Clayhanger on the Devon-Somerset border. He was a Foundation Member of the Devonshire Association and its first secretary for 38 years, retiring in 1900. He edited the first 30 volumes of the Transactions and was elected Association President in 1902. His obituary is available here. Rev.
