- Tranmere was a township and chapelry in Bebington ancient parish, Wirral hundred (SJ 3287), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- The civil parish was abolished in 1898 to become part of Birkenhead.
- It includes the hamlets of Clifton Park, Devonshire Park, Lower Tranmere, Mersey Park and Victoria Park
- The population was 353 in 1801, 6519 in 1851, and 37709 in 1901.
