- Great Meols (or Great Meolse) was a township in West Kirby ancient parish, Wirral hundred (SJ 2390), which became a civil parish in 1866.
- The civil parish was abolished in 1894 to become part of Hoylake cum West Kirby.
- It includes the hamlets of Farnalls Green and Sandhey.
- The population was 140 in 1801, 170 in 1851, and 821 in 1901.
