"HAWERBY-WITH-BEESBY, a parish in the hundred of Bradley Haverstoe, parts of Lindsey, county Lincoln, 9 miles S.E. of Caistor, and 3 from the North Thoresby station of the East Lincolnshire railway. Great Grimsby is its post town. It is a small agricultural parish situated on the Wolds, near the old Barton Street. It includes Beesby, which was formerly a distinct parish, but is now only one farm, the property of the Earl of Yarborough. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Lincoln, value £280, in the patronage of the Chapter of Southwell Collegiate Church, Notts. The church, dedicated to St. Margaret, is an ancient structure with a tower containing two bells. It was repaired in 1846. The register commences in the middle of the 16th century, but the early part is illegible. Hawerby House is situated on an acclivity commanding extensive views, and was considerably enlarged in 1840."
