It was founded in 1866. The present building built 1996 is on Burnage Lane, close to Moorton Avenue.
The church was originally the Burnage Independent or Congregational Church. Details of its foundation by the Watts family is given in a reprint of an address given by Miss E Watts Sidebottom in 1939 and is reprinted in Burnage Miscellany 5 published by Burnage Heritage. There is also a photo of the founder Jane Watts and the author of the address and a photo of the original chapel. Burnage Illustrated another reprint by the same author and published by Burnage Heritage has a photo of the second chapel which was burnt down before the present church.
In 1972 the Congregational church joined with the English Presbyterian church to become the United Reformed Church.
