St Boniface, Lower Broughton, Roman Catholic

It was founded in 1892. Opened 1895. Church 22 April 1921. New Church 22 April 1961. Parish now combined with St Joseph, Ordsall and renamed St Boniface and St Joseph. Services continue at both churches.

Mass was said in a house in " The Avenue " before suitable premises were built. Broughton Town Hall was also hired for a time. Fr. Charles Hanrahan built a school-chapel in 1895. The chapel was on the first floor where the original window behind the altar can be seen in outline, although now bricked up. Fr. Wren built the present church in 1920. Mass was said for the first time at midnight of Christmas, 1920, although the church was not officially opened until May, 1921.
