Church History information for Contin, Church of Scotland and places above it in the hierarchy

Contin, Church of Scotland

The kirk and manse are on an island created by a channel that diverges from the Black Water. The plain kirk stands where an earlier church, dedicated to St Maelrubha, was destroyed by the Macdonanls in the late 15th century. The tall windows may date from the 1730s, and the slate roof replaced heather thatch in 1760. Various alterations have been made to the original building.
