Warsop

  • Cattle fairs were held the Monday before Whitsunday, on 29 September and again on 17 November.
     
  • Warsop watermill was built in 1767 and restored in 1924.
     
  • A county police station was built in 1894.
     
  • In 1930, Samuel Fell WILSON, a Warsop grocer, wine merchant, and publisher of the Warsop and District Almanack, was shot in the head and chest as he sat in his car outside the mill. The murderer was never identified. There is a local road named Fell Wilson Street.

  • The manpower shortages caused by World War One was a great boon to women who moved into factory and clerical jobs that had primarily been male-oriented in the past. The trend was noticed in the Newark Great War Bulletin of June 21st, 1915.
     
  • The Newark Great War Bulletin of August 23rd, 1915 notes that recent rainstorms have ruined crops. Coupled with depredations from U-Boats, the paper notes the scarcity of produce and the threat of inflation.
