"TYLORSTOWN, which takes its name from the collieries formerly belonging to Messrs A. Tylor & Co and now owned by Messrs. D. Davis and Sons, Limited, is a township forming part of the Rhondda Urban District, 7 miles north-north-west from Pontypridd, with a station on the Ferndale branch of the Great Western railway; in 1887, together with Ferndale and Mardy, it was formed into an ecclesiastical parish, but in 1900 Ferndale and Mardy were separated from Tylorstown and re-constituted as a district parish. It is in the hundred of Miskin, petty sessional division of Lower Miskin, Pontypridd union and county court district, rural deanery of Rhondda and archdeaconry and diocese of Llandaff. Holy Trinity church, erected in 1883, at a cost of £1400, is a building of Welsh sandstone with Bath stone dressings, ... In 1903 a new vestry was built and an organ provided : there are 307 sittings. The register dates from the year 1887. The living is a perpetual curacy, net yearly value £293, with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Llandaff and the Board of Patronage, ...
The church of St. Mary Magdalen, PONTYGWAITH, was erected in 1896 at the cost of Mrs. Llewellyn, of Baglan Hall. The Rev. Reginald Edward King L.Div. of St. David's College, Lampeter, is curate in charge.
The population of this ecclesiastical parish in 1901 was 7,564, and in 1911, 12,040.

The main church of the Holy Trinity was erected in 1883 and its registers are recorded in 1920 as dating from 1887. The church of St. Mary Magdalene was erected at Pont-y-Gwaith in 1896."

Details of extant records on Archives Network Wales for the following;
- Tylorstown Lodge "...........was a branch of the National Union of Mineworkers (South Wales Area). The Lodge represented miners from the Tylorstown Colliery in the Rhondda Fach Valley. Each of the four Tylorstown pits had originally been sunk as part of Ferndale Colliery (Nos. 6 to 9) between 1892 and 1907. The colliery covered a large area and as a result, each pit developed their own identity. This resulted in the establishment of separate lodges for each pit although regular joint meetings were held for the whole Tylorstown district....................."
