Llwynypia in the Parishes of Ystradyfodwg and Llantrisant

"LLWYNYPIA is a township forming part of the Rhondda Urban District, with a station on the Rhondda branch of the Great Western railway, 6 miles north-west from Pontypridd : in 1879 it was formed into an ecclesiastical parish, comprising the townships of Llwynypia, Tonypandy and Trealaw (the latter being formed into a separate parish of All Saints, on December 28th, 1920), from the civil parish of Ystradyfodwg (now called Rhondda). It is in the Miskin hundred, petty sessional division of Rhondda, Pontypridd union and county court district, rural deanery of Rhondda and archdeaconry and diocese of Llandaff. The church of St. Andrew, erected in 1876, at a cost of £2100, is a cruciform building of stone, in the Early Gothic style, ... the chancel, organ chamber and vestry were added in 1888, at a cost of about £900, and in 1904 a south aisle and porch were built at a cost of £1000: there are sittings for 700 persons. The register dates from the year 1879. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £397, with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Llandaff and the Board of Patronage, ... The vicarage house, which is in Tonypandy, was built in 1886. There are chapels of various denominations. The New Conservative Club, opened in 1904, at a cost of £7000 contains a fine hall, used for entertainments, meetings &c.; a spacious billiard room, with two tables, and reading, bath and other rooms. The collieries of the Glamorgan Coal Company Limited employ about 4000 of the inhabitants. The homes for aged persons, opened in 1903, and an infirmary containing 161 beds, added in 1911, with 25 acres of land attached, provide for 320 people. They are under the control of the Pontypridd Board of Guardians. The population of the ecclesiastical parish in 1901 was 22,285, and in 1911, 18,7Ι8.
