"St. Luke's, CWMBWRLA, is an ecclesiastical parish, formed in May, 1911: the church, erected in 1890 a chapel of ease to St. Peters, Cockett, at a cost of £2900, is a building of stone in the Gothic style ... in the east side of the church is a stained glass window, which, together with a marble tablet, commemorates the men of the parish who fell in the Great War, 1914-18: there are 530 sittings. The register dates from the year 1890. The living is a vicarage, gross yearly value £200, in the gift of the Bishop of St. David's and the Board of Patronage. Military History

Various items - on the People's Collection Wales site

  • Private John Llewellyn Job served with the East Lancashire Regiment in Salonika, Greece. This is a letter to his parents in Manselton, from Salonika written on 27 August 1916 – one noteworthy passage says ‘I was very sorry to hear of so many Cwmbwrla boys being killed & wounded in France, and also Mrs Griffiths’ case’. Less than three weeks after writing this, John himself was dead. 
  • William James Lewis was one of the three sons of David and Margaret Lewis of Cwmbwrla who volunteered for service in the First World War. This article was printed in a local paper in which a fellow soldier commended him for his bravery. The text reads: "HE SAVED MY LIFE" SWANSEA PRIVATE'S GALLANT ACT GLOWING LETTER TO HIS MOTHER
