In 1868, the parish of Nicholaston contained the following places:
"NICHOLASTON, a parish in the hundred of Swansea, county Glamorgan, 2 miles from Penrice, its post town, and 9 S.W. of Swansea. It is situated on Oxwich Bay, near Cefn Bryn, and contains the hamlet of Manselfield. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St. David, with Oxwich annexed, value £224. The church is a small ancient edifice."
"MANSELFIELD, a hamlet in the parish of Nicholaston, county Glamorgan, 6 miles S.W. of Castell Llwchwr. It is situated near Oxwick Bay."
