"St. Paul's, GRANGETOWN, is an ecclesiastical parish, formed in 1894 from that of St. John, Canton, with about 17,168 inhabitants; the church, in Paget street, Grangetown, erected in 1889-90, at a cost of £7400 (the major portion of which was defrayed by the Earl of Plymouth), is a building of stone in the Early English aud Decorated styles, ... and has 650 sittings. The register dates from 1894. The living is a vicarage, net income £352, in the gift of the Bishop of Llandaff and the Board of Patronage, The conventional district of Upper Grangetown was formed in 1920 from the parishes of St. Mary the Virgin, Cardiff, and St. Paul's, Grangetown; it comprises the districts attached to the former chapels of ease of St. Samson and St. Barnabas.
