"LLAN BLEIDDIAN, in the Cwmwd of Maenor Glynn Ogwr, Cantref of Cron Nedd (now called the Hundred of Ogmore), Co. of GLAMORGAN, South Wales: a discharged Vicarage, with the Chapel of Cowbridge, valued in the King's Books at £10..3..4: Patrons, The Dean and Chapter of Gloucester: Church dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The Resident Population of this Parish, in 1801, was 475. The Money raised by the Parish Rates, in 1803, was £166..18..6 1/2, at 1s. 9d. per acre to the Poor, and at 4 1/2d. per pound to the Highways. It is 1 m. S. W. from Cowbridge. This Parish contains about 3000 acres of Land; of which, five or six Hundred are uniclosed and uncultivated. It is a remarkably pleasant Village, situate upon Lime-stone. In the division of Glamorgan by the Norman Adventurers, the Lordship of Llan Bleiddian the Great, and the privileged Town of Pont Faen, were given to Robert de St. Quintin, whose Castle is now in ruins. - Llanblethian (The Causeway) deeds 1715-c1900 "The row of houses known as Causeway Cottages stands on land which was in the possession of David Tristham in the 1690s. When the current cottages were built is uncertain, but they appear in the 1841 census enumerator's returns. Despite the proximity of the cottages to the former Llanblethian woollen factory, there is no evidence to suggest that their owners or inhabitants had any direct connection with the weaving industry. The row seems to have been built as accommodation for artisans and agricultural workers"

LLANBLETHIAN. HARVEST THANKSGIVING SERVICES were held at the Parish Church of Llanblethian on Wednesday and Friday, the 22nd and 24th instant, in English and Welsh respectively. Both the services were well attended, and the singing was unusually good. On Wednesday the Holy Communion was celebrated at 11 a.m. and the evening service began at 7.30. ...............-The Welsh service on Friday commenced at 7.30 p.m. .....(part extract)......
LANBLETHIAN. Great interest was evinced in the Llanblethian Parish Councils Election which came off on Monday. It will be recollected that when preliminary preparations were made in view of the election, indications were not wanting on al hands that there would be a plethora of candidates. It was current before the nomination day, indeed, that the number of aspirants for seats on the newly-constituted Authority would reach phenomenal proportions. As the red-letter day approached, however, the number gradually but surely diminished into 15 candidates for seven seats .....(part extract)......
LLANBLETHIAN. Llanbletlnan A.F.C.—This club held a very successful dinner and smoker last week at their headquarters, the Duke of Wellington Hotel. About 35 members sat down to an excellent repast, which was well catered by Mrs. Spencer. The chair was occupied by Mr. C. J. Gwyn (in the absence of Mr. F. W. Dunn, the president of the club), who was supported by Messrs. G. Codd. Fred Dunn. A. Durstan. and Chas. H. Thomas. The usual toasts were given, and songs were contributed by members of the club. .....(part extract)......
LLANBLETHIAN HORTICULTURAL EXHIBITION. This show was held on the 19th instant. The weather was remarkably fine, and the meeting it is gratifying to observe proved one of the most successful yet held, many visitors arriving by railway, in addition to many who came by road from the adjacent districts. The exhibition took place as usual in the beautiful grounds of St. Quintin's Castle, which were tastefully decorated for the occasion. In addition to the vegetables exhibited, which were as a general collection highly creditable to the cottagers who produced them, there was a fine collection of stone and greenhouse plants in the large marquee, a splendid display of fuchsias attracting especial notice. .....(part extract)...... |
