In January 1889, a decision was made to erect an Iron Church in Henry Street, this opened in July 1889.
In 1900 the site was purchased by the Glasgow & South Western Railway, and a decision was taken to build a new church in Cross Arthurlie Street.
On 1 May 2016 the doors of this old red sandstone building were closed for the last time after 112 years.
Barrhead Methodist Church (Former)
- Construction materials: Stone (sandstone) - Used for walls; Slate - Used for roof.
- The building was in a poor state of repair when it closed in 2016.
- Church: Build/construction 1902
- Church Closed: 2016
- Church was vacated due to high repair costs. The building required major repairs, the cost of which would be too much for the congregation to raise. See the entry on Canmore which includes photographs of the old church.
