The congregation initially (1795) worshipped in a different location, near the current police station. They moved to the location marked here in 1874. First shown on the 1895 OS maps as "UP", by 1959, shown as "C of S", with an adjacent manse, and still evident on the 1967 map, although no longer in active use at this stage.
By the 1960's, there were 2 Church of Scotland congregations in West Calder, so, the decision was taken to transport the congregation to Polbeth, which had no church. This history is further described on the church website. Subsequently, the churches in Polbeth and West Calder have re-united as a joint parish.
Earlier history can be found in Smalls "History of the UP Congregations".
Note - both Harwood and Hartwood have been used on OS maps.
