It was founded in 1838, and is shown on the 1876 OS map as having "seats for 600", with the building immediately behind in use as a "School (Girls and Boys)"
In 1974, Newhaven Free Church and Newhaven Parish Church amalgamated.
In 2006, the main church was converted into flats, and the building behind (presumably the old school?) is now used for worship.
