The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ardcolm contained the following places:

"ARDCOLM, a parish in the barony of Shelmaliere, in the county of Wexford, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles to the N.E. of Wexford. It is situated at the north end of Wexford haven, and includes part of the village of Castle Bridge, and the island of Erin Beg, in the harbour. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin, value with the perpetual curacy of Ardcavan and several other benefices, £514, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is at Castlebridge, and occupies the site of an old castle. It was built in 1764, and has monuments of Lieut. Col. Jones Watson and Edward Turner, Esq., who fell in the rebellion of 1798. There are ruins of a very ancient church on Erin Beg Island.

"CASTLEBRIDGE, a village in the parishes of Ardcavan, Ardcolm, and Tikillin, barony of Shelmaliere, in the county of Wexford, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles to the N. of Wexford. It is pleasantly seated on the N. shore of Wexford Haven, on the banks of the Castlebridge river, and has a good trade in corn. The village contains large storehouses for agricultural produce, malt houses, and flour-mills. Here are the parish church of Ardcolm, the Roman Catholic chapel, a school, and a dispensary. There was anciently a castle at this place, on the site of which the church now stands. A police station is fixed here. Fairs are held on the 11th April, the 10th June, the 25th September, and the 26th December."
