OUGHTERLEAGUE, or AUGHTERLEIGH, also called BILL, a parish, in the barony of KILNEMANAGH, county of TIPPERARY, and province of MUNSTER, 4½ miles (N. W.) from Cashel; containing 975 inhabitants.
It comprises 2252 statute acres, including the fine demesne of Killenure Castle, the seat of Wm. Cooper, Esq. It is a rectory and vicarage, in the diocese of Cashel, forming part of the union of Ballintemple: the tithes amount to £138. 9.3. In the R. C. divisions it is the head of a district, comprising also the parish of Ballintemple: in each is a chapel. About 190 children are educated in two private schools.
