The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868
In 1868, the parish of Ballymackey contained the following places:"BALLYMACKEY, a parish in the barony of Upper Ormond, in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles to the E. of Nenagh. A large part of the land is bog, and there is much limestone. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, and Kilmacduagh, of the value with three others of £532, in the patronage of the bishop. There are several pleasant seats in the parish; the principal are Castle Willington, Woodville, and Besborough. A police force is stationed here."
