The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868
In 1868, the parish of Kilmore contained the following places:"KILMORE, a parish in the barony of North Ballintober, county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, 7 miles N. of Strokestown. Drumsna is its post town. The parish is 4 miles long by 3 broad, and contains the village of Hill-street. The surface lies along the S. side of the Shannon. It consists of a good soil, and is traversed by the road from Elphin to Jamestown. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value £200. The church was erected principally by means of a loan from the late Board of First Fruits in 1828. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and seven day schools. Charlestown is the seat of Sir G. King, Bart., and Kilmore House that of the Almutys. A monastery was founded here in 1232 by Con O'Flangian."
"EAST CHARLESTOWN, (and West Charlestown) two hamlets including the seat of Sir Gilbert King, in the parish of Kilmore, barony of Ballintober, in the county of Roscommon, province of Ulster, Ireland. They are situated near Drumsna, on the banks of the Shannon.
"HILLSTREET, a village in the parishes of Aughrim and Kilmore, county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, 5 miles N.E. of Elphin."
