The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868
In 1868, the parish of Outrath contained the following places:"OUTRATH, a parish in the barony of Shillelogher, county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles S.E. of Kilkenny, its post town. It is situated in the vicinity of the Nore river. The road from Kilkenny to Knocktopher passes through the parish. The soil is mostly good. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ossory, value with Inchiholohan, £408, in the patronage of the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Grange. There is a day school. Prospect House is the chief seat in the neighbourhood."
