In 1868, the parish of Blackrath contained the following places:"BLACKRATH, a parish in the barony of Gowran, and county of Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles to the N.E. of Kilkenny. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin, of the value of £131, in the patronage of the bishop of the diocese. Near the village is Lyrath, the seat of Sir J. Cuff Bart."
