The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868
In 1868, the parish of Harristown contained the following places:"HARRISTOWN, a parish in the barony of West Offaly, county Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles S.W. of Kildare. Monastereven is its post town. It is 3 miles in length, and the same in breadth. The surface is somewhat boggy, lying near the Monavellagh bog. The river Barrow traces parts of its border. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Kildare, value with three other benefices, £366, in the patronage of the bishop and the Marquis of Drogheda alternately. Here is a private school, but no church. Kildangan is the neighbouring seat."
