Church History

The ancient parish church of St Senan fell into ruins by the early nineteenth century. in 1840 there were no remains to be seen in Kilshenane Graveyard, which is still in use.

In the Established Church / Church of Ireland the parish was merged with Kilflynn in 1721.

In the Roman Catholic church the parish was divided. The civil parish has two separate sections: the northern is part of Lixnaw Parish and has no church of its own. The southern section, sometimes called 'The Parish of Lyre' is in Duagh Parish and has a church at Lyreacrompane since 1916.
