"KILLAHA, a parish in the barony of Magunihy, county Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 7 miles E.S.E. of Killarney, its post town. It is 10 miles long by 5 broad, and lies within the valley of the river Flesk. The greater part of the surface is wild and mountainous, comprising part of the Derrynasaggart mountains, with much bog. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe, value with Kilgarvan, £206, in the patronage of the bishop. There is a Roman Catholic chapel united to that of Kilgarvan, also three day schools. Killaha House is the principal residence."

Church History

The ancient parish church is in ruins in Killaha Graveyard. Following the Reformation this building passed into the hands of the Established Church (later the Church of Ireland). From 1812 the parish was merged with Kilgarvan and later Kenmare and there was no Protestant place of worship within the civil parish.

In the Roman Catholic Church the parish was renamed Glenflesk after the main settlement where a church was built. In the 1950s a chapel of ease was built at Clonkeen. The Catholic parish of Glenflesk also includes the detached Headfort area of the civil parish of Aghadoe, with a church built at Barraduff.
