The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Esker contained the following places:

"ESKER, a parish in the baronies of Newcastle and Uppercross, county Dublin, province of Leinster, Ireland, 1 mile S.E. of Lucan, its post town. The surface consists of good soil. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Dublin, value with Leixlip, £527, in the patronage of the archbishop. The church is a picturesque ruin. In the Roman Catholic arrangement the parish is part of the union of Palmerstown, Lucan, and Clondalkin. Here is a private classical school. Esker was formerly a crown manor, and is quoted in an inquisition of 15 Henry VII. Esker House is the principal residence. Good building stone is quarried here."
