"DOORA, (or Dowry), a parish in the barony of Upper Bunratty, in the county of Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 2 miles E. of Ennis, its post town. It is situated on the road from Clare to Spancel Hill. The surface is boggy and hilly. The river Quin, a tributary to the Fergus, passes along its eastern boundary. It contains the hamlets of Dowry and Ballaghboy, and the bog of Doora, from which large quantities of turf are obtained. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, value with Ogashin, £371, in the patronage of Lord Leconfield. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Quin and Cloney. Moreisk is the seat of Lord Fitzgerald. Other residences are Castlefergus, Maryfield, and Kilbrekanbeg.
