"Kilnaleck is a market and fair town, in the parish of Crosserlough or Kildrumferton, barony of Castlerahan, Co. Cavan, head of a petty sessional and dispensary district in Cavan Union, Protestant and Catholic dioceses of Kilmore, 10 miles from Oldcastle railway station, 11 miles south-east from Cavan and 6 miles from Ballyjamesduff. The town is of a very unpretending appearance, about 3 miles from Lough Sheelin, one of the most picturesque lakes in Ireland, which is dotted with many islets, on several of which are ancient ruins. The Protestant Church of Crosserlough is about a mile from the town and the Catholic place of worship about 2 miles distant. ". [From Slaters Directory (1896)]
"KILNALECK, a post-office village in the parish of Crosserlough, in the barony of Castlerahan, county Cavan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles N.W. of Mount Nugent, and 61 from Dublin. It is situated on the road from Dublin to Enniskillen, and contains a police station. Fairs are held on the 2nd February, 25th March, 13th May, 11th June, 10th August, 11th September, 1st November, and 17th December."
