p. 816 Township of Whitley - Richard Beaumont's Charity - see p. 829 Richard Beaumont of Whitley Hall, in the County of York, Esq. by his Will, dated 8th January 1703, proved at York 28th August 1704, devised to his cousin, Richard Beaumont the younger, son of Richard Beaumont of Lassells Hall in the County of York, gentleman, and to the heirs male of his body, lawfully begotten or to be begotten for ever, and for want of such issue, to the next heir male of the name Beaumont, for ever, all his manors, messuages, lands and real estate within the county of York to the end and purpose that the same might remain in the name of Beaumont, and upon condition that the said Richard Beaumont the younger, and his heirs male, should pay the legacies thereafter mentioned, and also an annuity for putting out of poor boys apprentices; and he gave to the townships of Kirkheaton, Crosland, South Mirfield, and Lepton, the sum of £40 for ever to be paid and equally divided and distributed to each township an equal share, and to the several overseers of the poor thereof for the time being, by the said Richard Beaumont the younger and his heirs male, should put forth of the said townships eight poor boys apprentices, yearly and every year for ever, to trades, with the said £40.
The estates mentioned in the will are now the property and in possession of Richard Henry Beaumont, of Whitley Hall, Esq., who came of age in or about the year 1820.
