Acts XX v.35
"It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Robert Brown of Great Cowden, Bachelor, by his last Will, date May 5th 1790, Appointed the sum of One hundred Pounds to be paid into the hands of the Minister and Churchwardens of the Parish of Mapleton; in trust and to the intent that the Interest thereof might be applied by them & their successors for ever, for the following purposes. Two shillings to be expended every other week in the purchase of white Bread, which is to be distributed amongst Poor people at the discretion of the Minister & Churchwardens after Divine Service in the Church and in no other place except some of the poor are incapable of attending Divine Service through sickness or bodily Infirmity. The remainder of the Interest is appointed to be distributed at Christmas amongst such poor people belonging to the said Parish of Mapleton as the Minister & Churchwardens shall judge to be the most proper objects of Charity. 1791
