"FANGFOSS, a parish in the Wilton Beacon division of the wapentake of Harthill, East Riding county York, 4 miles N.W. of Pocklington, its post town, and 12 E. of York. It is a railway station on the North-Eastern line. The parish is situated on the river Foss, and includes the hamlet of Spittle. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of York, value £102, in the patronage of the archbishop. The church is a modern structure. The parochial charities produce about £9 per annum. There is a day school for both sexes."
