"TEMPLECOMBE, a parish in the hundred of Horethorn, county Somerset, 5 miles S. of Wincanton, its post town, and 7 E. of Sherborne. It is a station on the South-Western railway. The village is situated on the river Kale, a tributary of the Stour. The soil is of a loamy nature, with a subsoil of stone in the upper portion of the parish, and clay in the lower portion. There are several extensive dairy farms. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £398. The church is a stone edifice with a tower. The parochial charities produce about £20 per annum. There is a National school for both sexes with a small endowment. The Primitive Methodists have a chapel. J.
