"SWAINSWICK, a parish in the hundred of Bath-Forum, county Somerset, 3 miles N.E. of Bath, its post town. The village is small, but neatly built. There is a corn mill. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £220, in the patronage of Oriel College, Oxford. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient structure with a tower and six bells. The interior contains a brass to E. Forde, bearing date 1439, and the tomb of Prynne. The parochial charities produce about £4 per annum. There is a parochial school for both sexes, at which a Sunday-school is also held."
