"ASHBY, a parish in the hundred of Mutford, in the county of Suffolk, 5 miles to the N.W. of Lowestoft, its post town. The river Waveney flows near it on the W., and Fritton Decoy lies to the N. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich, value £214, in the patronage of Sir S. M. Peto. The church, which is thatched, and has a circular tower with octangular top, is dedicated to St. Mary."
