"LINLEY, a parish within the liberty of the borough of Wenlock, county Salop, 2½ miles from Broseley, its post town, and 4 N.W. of Bridgnorth. It is a station on the Severn Valley railway. The village, which is small, is situated near the river Severn, and on the Shrewsbury and Bridgnorth turnpike road. The land is partly in common. The living is a rect:, not in charge, annexed to the rectory* of Broseley, in the diocese of Hereford. The church, dedicated to St. Leonard, is an ancient structure, with a tower containing two bells. Linley Hall, the principal residence, was formerly the seat of the Lacon family.
