"HOPE BAGGOT, a parish in the Cleobury division of the hundred of Stottesdon, county Salop, 6 miles S.E. of Ludlow, its post town, and 4½ N. of Tenbury. The village, which is small, contains some valuable stone quarries, both for building purposes and for grindstones. The soil is sandy, subsoil gravel. The living is a rest* in the diocese of Hereford, value £111. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is an ancient edifice with a tower containing two bells. A stained window has been recently inserted in the chancel, also one in the tower.
