"SCALD WELL, a parish in the hundred of Orlingbury, county Northampton, 8½ miles N.E. of Northampton, its post town. The village, which is of small extent, is chiefly agricultural. The manufacture of parchment and wool combing afford employment to a small number of persons. The tithes were commuted for land and a money payment under an Enclosure Act in 1775, and the glebe comprises 150 acres. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £357. The church, dedicated to SS. Peter and Paul, has a tower containing four bells. The parochial charities produce about £68 per annum, of which £25 goes to Roe's school. The Independents have a place of worship. The Duke of Buccleuch and Sir C. E. Isham, Bart., are lords of the manor."
