"ORTON, a chplry. in the par. and hund. of Rothwell, co. Northampton, 5 miles W. of Kettering, its post town, and 1 mile S.W. of Rothwell. The village, which is of small extent, is wholly agricultural. The surface is hilly, but fertile. Under an Enclosure Act, passed in 1782, a sum of £100 is annually paid to Rothwell Hospital in lieu of tithes. The living is a cur. annexed to the vic. of Rothwell, in the dioc. of Peterborough.
