Dodford

"DODFORD, a parish in the hundred of Fawsley, in the county of Northampton, 3 miles, S.E. of Daventry, 2 N.W. of Weedon, its post town and railway station, and 9 W. of Northampton. Its situation is well adapted to pasture and agriculture, lying in a narrow and well-watered valley. The soil is a deep loam. The Grand Junction canal and the London and North-Western railway pass in the neighbourhood, nearly parallel to the old Roman road, Watling Street. A spring rises here forming a tributary of the Nen. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough, value £223, in the patronage of T. R. Thornton, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The tower contains six bells and a clock which plays the chimes. The font is supposed to be Saxon. In the church are several brasses, one of a Knight Templar, and some curious and interesting monuments. There is an endowed charity school. Sir Charles Knightley, Bt., is lord of the manor."
