"COTTINGHAM, a parish in the hundred of Corby, in the county of Northampton, 2 miles S. of Rockingham, and 8 N. of Kettering. It is situated near the river Welland, and contains the township of Middleton. This was the Saxon Cotingham, and had in the reign of Henry III. a house for lepers. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £426, in the patronage of Brasenose College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. The charities amount to £36 per annum. Here the Independents and Wesleyan Methodists have each a chapel. The manorial rights are vested in the hands of the copyholders."
