"COSGROVE, a parish in the hundred of Cleley, in the county of Northampton, 12 miles S. W. of Northampton, and 1¾ mile N. of Stoney Stratford, its post town. It is situated near the river Ouse, and the London and North-Western railway. The Grand Junction canal (Buckingham branch) passes near the village. It contains part of the hamlet of Old Stratford, through which Watling Street passes. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough, value £363, in the patronage of Mrs. H. Mansel. The church, dedicated to SS. Peter and Paul, is an ancient stone edifice in various styles of architecture. Here are National schools for both sexes. In the neighbourhood is a chalybeate spring, now known as Fincheswell, which is a corruption of its former name, St. Vincent's Well. The principal residences are Cosgrove Hall and Cosgrove Priory."
