"New Catton parish was created in early Victorian times from parts of the Norwich City parish of St Clement and the county parishes of (Old) Catton & Sprowston. The need for the new parish had arisen as a result of the sudden expansion of the city of Norwich beyond its walls into suburbs. The growth of the city was rapid and swathes of former countryside were covered in terraced housing to accommodate a growing population. Remarkably in a city fond of recycling housing the terraces survive in the main and are popular with younger folk starting out on the home owning trail. Christ Church was built, at what was the end of the Magdalen Road, to serve the new development. It is built almost totally in brick and in the lancet style. The church was the early built very quickly in the early 1840s and stands in a road junction site without graves, merely a swathe of landscaped gardens." [http://tinstaafl.co.uk]
