"BEESTON REGIS, or Beeston-next-the-Sea, 3 miles W. by N. of Cromer, has in its parish 265 souls, and about 850 acres of land, belonging chiefly to the Rev. Cremer Cremer, of the Hall, and Samuel Hoare, Esq., of London, who owns the Abbey farm, but the manorial rights, and the patronage of the Church (All Saints,) belong to the Queen's Duchy of Lancaster. The rectory, valued in the King's Book at £16, and in 1831 at £138, has 4½A. of glebe, and is enjoyed by the Rev. C. Cremer. At the entrance to a picturesque dale, are the ruins of Beeston Priory, (St. Mary,) founded in the reign of John, by Lady Margery de Cressey, for Austin canons, and granted at the dissolution to Sir E. - After 1834 Beeston Regis became part of the Erpingham Union, and the workhouses were at Gimingham and Sheringham. These were replaced by a new workhouse at West Beckham in 1850.
