“SAUSTHORPE, a parish in the hundred of Hill, parts of Lindsey, county Lincoln, 3 miles N.W. of Spilsby, its post town. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on the river Steeping, and is wholly agricultural. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln, value £216. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, has a crocketed and spired tower containing three bells. The interior of the church contains three carved screens. The whole edifice was rebuilt in 1844, at an outlay of £3,000. There is a National school, chiefly supported by the Rev. F. Swan. New Hall, built in 1822, is the principal residence."

- In 1913, Colonel Charles Arthur SWAN, 3rd Batn. Lincs Regt., was resident at Sausthorpe Hall.

- In 1930, Lt.-Colonel Charles Francis Trollot (or Trollope) SWAN was also resident at Sausthorpe Hall. There is a Charles F. T. SWAN birth registered in the Spilsby Reg. Dist. in the first quarter of 1888. His father, Charles Arthur SWAN, was High Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1897. Charles F. T. SWAN was born 25 Nov. 1887, most likely in Sausthorpe.

- This place was an ancient parish in Lincoln county and became a modern Civil Parish when those were established.
- The parish was in the ancient Hill Wapentake (or Hill Hundred) in the East Lindsey division of the county, in the parts of Lindsey.
- Some Directories place the parish. perhaps erroneously, in the South Lindsey district of the county.

- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Spilsby petty session hearings every other Monday.
- As a result of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, the parish became part of the Spilsby Poor Law Union.
- There was a National School here by 1850. The facility was enlarged in 1893 to hold up to 70 children.
