Description in 1871:
"STRETTON-MAGNA, a chapelry in Glenn-Magna parish, Leicestershire; 2¾ miles N of Glenn r. station, and 4¾ SE of Leicester. Post town, Leicester. Real property, £1,435. Pop., 42. Houses, 7. S. Hall is the residence of Lieut. Col. King. The living is annexed to Glenn-Magna."

- The parish was in the Billesdon sub-district of the Billesdon Registration District.

Great Sretton is actually smaller than Little Stretton. It is a small village, a township and a parish 5 miles south-east of Leicester city, 2 miles east of Great Glen and 103 miles north of London. The parish covers 704 acres and was partly pasture and partly farmland for centuries.
If you are planning a visit:
- By automobile, take the A6 south-east out of Leicester through WIgston. You will need to turn north (left) at Newton Harcourt.
- The Leicester Airport lies just to the north of the old village.

- The Gartree Road that runs through the village is the old Roman Road. It gives its name, "Stretton," to the village.
- Ask for a calculation of the distance from Stretton Magna to another place.
- Most of the parish land was given over to pasturage.
- At last check, only about three homes were occupied in the area of the medieval village.
- HistoricEngland.org.uk lists this place as a "deserted village, two fishponds and moated site."
- Stretton Hall is a large brick mansion and was the seat of Charles PACKE, Esq., in 1881.
- The Hall was the residence of Captain Edward Christopher PACKE in 1912.

- Although known to most people as "Great Stretton", the parish's official name is "Stretton Magna", the Latin equivalent.
- This place was an ancient chapelry and township in Glenn Magna parish in the county of Leicestershire and became a modern Civil Parish in December, 1866.
- The parish was in the eastern division of the county in the ancient Gartree Hundred (or Wapentake).
